Building engaging content

Have you been on a blog and read content jumping from one subject to another?  You might have also read tweets that take you from one blog to another blog and then yet another blog. All unrelated to one another of course. Now if you’re like me, then you’ll agree with me it’s really difficult to read.

While the mediums are built for speed, it is still a world of communication and if you want to make an impact with your community, then have your blogs and sites organized and well written. Readers will not only take your business seriously but you’ll also be building trust.  If you’ve taken a few minutes to plan your blog, tweets, and videos, then it will convey to your customers that you’re thinking about quality across your business processes, too. What’s the result? You bet - an engaged community and potentially buyers of your products and services.

Here are two ideas to keep your sites well planned and engaging:

Create all of your content in one fell swoop.
Think of your blog, facebook, and tweets as a magazine would with articles.  Each month, a magazine publishes articles related to a monthly theme. For example, a Professional Organizer would have a marketing push in during winter as January as is National Professional Organizing month.  While in the summer months, a photographer might have articles surrounding the best weddings.

Think comic book or soap opera. Comic books and soap operas use a technique of mystery and suspense to keep their audiences engaged. It’s called the cliff hanger.  I remember waiting until next month to get the next issue of the Fantastic Four or the next episode of All My Childeren wondering what’s going to happen to my favorite characters. Try these.  They really work.

I’m interested to know how other are planning their sites and what works.  Please leave a comment and let me know.
